We started in Michigan, headed over to Germany and now we're back on US soil for episode 3. Starting in Denver, Colorado we join up with 30 RS project engineers as they run pre-production mules on a gruelling 1000 mile development drive from the top of the Rockies to the desert plains of Arizona.
This is where it all begins to come together, in development the one thing you cannot substitute is actually driving the car. Tyrone Johnson, Ford Performance Vehicle Engineering Manager, says its the only way to discover things about the car that you wouldn't discover in any other way.
This development run wasn't just about the RS, along with several prototypes the Ford team also brought along competing vehicles, allowing the engineers to swap between them, touch what they want to touch, feel what they want to feel and figure out what about them, if anything, Ford wanted to incorporate into the RS.
But the real gold in Episode 3 comes from a debrief with the engineers after a day of driving. They gather in the room and spit out observations, feelings and tuning goals.
It's a holiday called work, try not to get too envious. Enjoy!
