After last weeks Michigan field trip, Rebirth of an Icon Round 2 takes us back to Ford of Europe HQ in Cologne, Germany where we spend time with the design team along with a unique ride in the RS as it has it's first accident.

Ernesto Rupar, Exterior Design Supervisor, takes us through the form and function of the enhancements made to aerodynamics and cooling. Serife Celebi, Colour and Material Supervisor, then explains to us how they went about deciding what touches, materials and colours would feature throughout the cabin.

Lastly we're taken to see Christian Marschner, Safety Test Engineer, where he crashes the first of 28 RS prototypes that will eventually meet their demise in the name of your safety.

Episode 3 next week!

Is that number 28 of the crash test prototypes? That looks like a lot of impact power transferred onto the dummy's body.
well yea you're in an accident... energy is going to find a place to go... thats why F1 cars are made to disintegrate, it saps all the violent energy out...

The airbags did well... sure the dummy got moved around a bunch, but the Focus has a 5 star rating from Euro NCAP (from 2012) http://www.euroncap.com/en/results/ford/focus/10923
