Problem With The Focus RS Engine? Ford Has Listeners For That.

Ford actually has a team of engine listeners to perform auditory tests on every 350PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine before they leave the factory in Valencia, Spain to meet up with the Focus RS body.

Gunnar Herrmann, the vice president of quality for Ford of Europe, says the team “knows what a perfectly calibrated engine sounds like and they know the tiny sounds to listen for in case there is a problem.”

Every member of the listening team spend months in training to detect even the slightest sound of engine imperfection in an enclosed and sound proof room. There they will listen to the engine, feel the engine, become one with… I mean, listen to the engine some more with the automotive equivalent of a medical stethoscope but for engines.
