Battle of the hot hatches. Ford Focus RS vs the 2016 Civic TypeR. Turbo 2.3L producing 345bhp with Awd vs Turbo 2.0L producing 306bhp with Fwd. Definitely a good watch. Which do you prefer ?

AWD for me. Especially with the weather I have to deal with and my commutes. Also because of the styling.. the Type R doesn't appeal to me
I'd go for the Type R if it was AWD. The thing is a beast even without drift mode.

Who would choose an AWD Type R over the Focus RS?
That's a really tough question ... I think if the Type R was AWD, I might actually really consider it. Aftermarket support would be huge, maintenance probably cheaper as well.

I would still go with the Focus RS. But I can see how that would make a great difference to peoples choice
one thing i'm going to like about the Type R is the better aftermarket support since i'm sure there will be a lot of crossover in parts from the Type R to other Civic models. The same can't be said about the Focus, but it will still happen, to a smaller scale.

Definitely, thats the kicker and a big deal breaker for some people.

Indeed. Typically people that get into this segment of performance vehicles are looking for more, maybe not right away but somewhere down the road they lose contentment and seek ways to improve what they have.

I'm guilty of that, the mod bug hits and it hits hard.

It'll only be a matter of time before the aftermarket is saturated with Focus RS mods and tunes since it's such a well known model by now.
I'm not too sure if the aftermarket support will be that crazy though. It won't receive the same attention as a Golf R would or something euro for that matter
Unless Ford suddenly decides to increase production volumes so they can sell large numbers of FoRS3's (or most owners decide they want to mod) then the potential market for tuners etc may not be large enough to justify the development costs. Particularly so when many conservative owners will stick with Mountune mods so they can keep their Ford warranty.
