And behind the wheel is hoonigan Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud.
We’ve already caught a glimpse of Ken Block’s Focus RS RX at the end of Gymkhana Eight and thought that it could be a rallycross car. Well now we have confirmation and the special RS will be taking part in the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship.
Unlike the more traditional rally courses where drivers will try to get the fastest time over stages which usually consists of public roads, Rallycross takes place on a closed racing circuit with mixed surfaces and jumps. This style of racing is more of a sprint, the perfect stage for the Ford Focus RS Rallycross.
Ford claims that the new rallycross vehicle will produce more than 600bhp with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and have a very impressive 0-60mph time of less than two seconds. This sprinting power could be what brings home the World Rallycross Championship trophy for the team.
Born from a partnership between Hoonigan Racing, Ford Performance, and M-Sport. No expense was spared when the RS was designed to optimize acceleration and performance with the Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox, FIA-approved roll cage, SLA-type suspension, and gravel spec Brembo brakes. Also, to keep the car in top shape Ford will be providing full factory support to the two man team; a needed advantage since they’re going up against Sebastien Loeb and his Peugeot 208.
We should hear more about the Focus RS Rallycross at or near the time of the first round on April 15.
