Between VW Golf R and Focus RS

Life long Volkswagen fan here, considering a Ford for the first time. VW recently announced that the U.S.-spec Mk7 Golf R is going to be DSG-only for the first year or so, and then a 6MT version will be offered thereafter. Such a stupid move by VWoA management, IMO. I will only buy a manual transmission in a sporty hatchback.

Anyone else considering a Golf R? This Focus RS should be more powerful, more aggressive looking, and feature a better AWD system, so I'm leaning 70/30 in favor of the Focus RS at this point.

How come the STi isn't in the conversation? Similar price point to the R, or is it a hatch thing?
In the UK its been mentioned the RS will begin sub £30,000, which is consistent and competitive with the Golf R's £30,150 tag and the STi's £28,995
Creedence, I'm only looking for a hatch. Once you've owned a hatch, and appreciate the versatility, it's hard to go back to a sedan.

Jobber, thanks for the insight from the UK. It would be excellent if the Focus RS was priced less expensively than the Golf R, stateside.
My buddy has the current Gen Golf R white with the Stage 3 goodies and it rips. We swapped cars the other day and it felt huge next to my Fiat Abarth.

for some, even how they look is a good enough reason to get one although they may not need the extra that it offers, i'm one those.
