There is bad news for people in the US who want to get their hands on the 2016 Ford Focus RS as the vehicle is going to be very rare with around 2000 of the cars being available in the states.
I found this bit of news on nseavoice.com. There was no mention of when they would produce and ship more to the states but for now, the whole country will have to fight over those 2000 units.
I think we were told this before. I just wonder what this will do in terms of availability and also dealer markup. Hopefully we dont'see a big increase over MSRP because there is short supply and large demand.
Theres more than 3000 Ford dealers in the US... I think they're going to build more then one per dealer... That number is going to make it more exclusive then Shelby Mustangs...(if true, which I doubt)
Maybe the 2000 estimate is a bit low, not sure where they got that number. After looking around for a more accurate number it still seems like Ford is only shipping a small number of vehicles so people may have to wait a while for theirs.
I think it's being produced in the Saarlouis production plant. Wonder if they're building something else there too or if the plant is just dedicated to the production of the RS.
Long wait but worth it, fortunate for them they have a solid following with the RS. But Honda might be scooping up some of that interest in the RS depending on how it compared and resonates with that crowd.
Would be a waste of money for a dedicated line especially when production is limited. They'll probably use the current Focus line for the RS, it's what makes the most sense out of all things.
The RS is going to require an increased level of detail.. Look at it this way, the Focus line is dependent on efficiency to be profitable. The RS is dependent on quality... the two don't always square. How is the Focus line affected by increased quality protocol on the RS?
It seems like there may be some truth to the allocation of 2000 units for the states.
From nseavoice.com:
Many are showing great affection for the next-gen Focus RS but Ford has confirmed that they will be producing the vehicle in limited numbers. In detail, only 2000 units of the Focus RS will be sold here in the US and this means that fans of the car will have to act fast if they wish to own one.
I don't really see it appreciating like the more exclusive brands, i.e. Ferrari, Porsche, Etc. I also think the future value of a car is dependent on how many are produced. The 1969 Camaro ZL1 is one example because less than 100 were sold (I think).
I assume that many of the cars from Porsche (outside their SUVs even) have more than 2000 models for sale in the US. I'm just saying that the Ford Focus may be just as exclusive in terms of the number of units as some other brands that we think of as exclusive.
Indeed and with the history it has and the following in markets that haven't go it before that are about to get it this time around will hold it to a high standard.
Can you still put your money down for one in case they do receive a Focus RS? If the 2000 units estimation is true then some dealerships might not see anything until another batch of Focus RS comes out. I think there's more than 3000 Ford dealerships in America.
You may have to travel farther for stock availability is that's the case. With a limited number of Focus Rs being shipped to the states the only dealers to get any may be the larger ones only.
The 2000 units estimation is wrong but they may not have enough for every dealer in the country.
It just seems like Ford should supply dealers with them as long as they have customers that are ordering them. Some type of allocation has to be done with the limited supply so that too many don't end up in certain places (NYC, LA, etc...) but otherwise I don't see why they should refuse if someone is willing to pay up.
Went to a dealership in Calgary and asked if I could put a non-refundable deposit down on an RS. They said no, unless you are an owner of multiple Ford dealerships or very connected to one that I shouldn't expect to be able to purchase an RS for 2-3 years. They also said anyone taking deposits is most likely doing it to bait you into a GT in the spring when they don't get any RS's.
no they did not. they didnt have a time frame yet. I'm hoping that once they start to put more info out and pricing and such, that the dealer will be able to get a more exact time
